Tasty Chef Star Ratings

Protect the star number. Gold without rating is a short shop.

Star Ratings

Tasty Chef shows an Overall Rating in stars on the idle hub. Official shots show a 4.9 next to the day counter. This page is how that number moves, what the wallet popup means after a sale, and when to End Shift instead of forcing another ticket. It is written for the milk tea demo. Bakery and sushi pins on Tasty Town are still under construction, so we do not invent bakery scoring.

If you cannot finish a cup yet, go back to how to play. Rating advice on a broken aisle is noise.

What the HUD is actually counting

During and after service you will see some mix of:

  • Day and clock time — which shift you are in, not a stage number.
  • Gold — spendable cash for machines, wages, and upgrades.
  • Player Cups — a cup counter on the hub. Treat it as a session stat until Steam publishes a formula. Do not invent a hidden multiplier.
  • Price Bonus — shots show values such as +10%. Menu focus and shop settings feed this more than cosmetics.
  • Overall Rating — stars, such as 4.9.
  • Wallet popup after a sale — Sale, Tip, Bonus as separate lines in one screenshot.

Tips are not the same as the star rating. A loud menu can print tips while the star sags because tickets expire. Protect stars first. Gold follows a shop that still has customers.

What drops the star

From how tickets and Stock Alert behave, these are the failures that hurt:

  1. Expired tickets. The timer bar on a drink ticket hit empty. Take over earlier, or put Make & Serve as duty 1.
  2. Wrong drink. Enabling Lemon Black Tea without Practice, then serving a cup that skipped lemon.
  3. Empty crates. Stock Alert ignored while coconut or milk is at zero. Restock Supplies must exist as a numbered duty — see hiring staff.
  4. Walking tax. Ice twelve tiles from tea. The kitchen flow planner exists to kill this.
  5. Two bodies on one brewer. Co-op or NPC overlap. Split brew versus ice as in co-op.

A 4.9 in a screenshot is not a cheat code. It is a short board, a straight aisle, and staff who are not all making drinks nobody ordered.

Set Menu can show a large bonus (one shot shows +60%) when the board is tight. Ice Off versus Custom, topping cap 0–3, and which of the four drinks are toggled all change how long a ticket takes. A three-topping cap on four drinks is a rating trap for a new shop. Use the menu planner:

  • Two drinks.
  • Toppings max 1.
  • Practice both drinks.
  • Then, and only then, open a third drink if crates already match.

Price Bonus on the hub is a cousin of that menu bonus, not a separate minigame. If the bonus is low, shrink the board before you buy an SSR.

When to End Shift

End Shift is a rating tool. Close the shop when:

  • Stock Alert is red and the restocker cannot catch up.
  • You want to move one machine two tiles.
  • The star sagged and you need a clean aisle more than one more sale.

There are no traditional stages. Steam describes expandable shops. Closing is not failing a level. Remodel with kitchen layout, then Start Service again.

Staff and rating

Mistakes per Drink appears on staff cards. A pretty SSR with a high mistake rate will dent stars while an R restocker saves them. Rank duties, not fur, on the staff roles list. Take Orders creates tickets. If nobody greets, the dining room goes quiet and rating has nothing to score. If everybody greets, nobody restocks.

Daily wage still spends gold even on a bad star day. Fire (Recall) wanderers. The 38/38 assigned cap is a late screenshot, not a rating quest.

Gold versus stars

Gold buys the next Advanced Cup Rack. Stars keep customers from leaving. Spend gold to fix walking time and cup capacity. Do not spend gold on Style Boutique while the star is falling. The gold economy tool and the milk tea shop guide keep those two numbers from fighting.

A rating drill

Serve a shift with Milk Tea only, toppings at 0, no staff. Note the star. Enable Matcha, toppings at 1, one Make & Serve employee. Note the star. If it dropped, you added complexity faster than aisles. If it held, you can afford Lemon Black Tea after Practice.

Steam has not published a public formula for Overall Rating. This page stays honest about that. When a patch note lists weights, we will quote them. Until then, expired tickets, empty crates, and long walks are the three knobs you can actually turn.

Store status sits on store status. Demo limits sit on demo and playtest.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers for milk tea shifts, staff, and the September 2026 launch.

What is Overall Rating in Tasty Chef?

A star score on the shop hub. Screenshots show values such as 4.9. Expired tickets and empty crates pull it down.

Do tips equal a good rating?

No. Tips are a wallet line. Stars track whether tickets finish on time with stock on the floor.

Should I End Shift if the star drops?

Yes, if you need to move machines or restock. There are no fixed stages to fail.

Does hiring more staff raise the rating automatically?

Only if duties are numbered and the aisle can hold them. Extra bodies on one brewer can lower stars.
